Singapore

Here are some fun stories from our time in Singapore.

First we went to Jurong Bird Park - the largest bird park in the world! There are all sorts of cool birds here, including this hornbill. Mackenzie got to participate in a bird show (video will be uploaded at some point.)
We also went to Singapore Night Safari - the world's first ever night zoo. We saw lions, tigers, zebras, hippos, rhinos, and flying squirrels. Unfortunately, none of our pictures came out, because IT WAS AT NIGHT.

We spent the better part of the next day on Sentosa, a resort island off the coast of Singapore. Here we saw beautiful sandy beaches (with huge oil tankers out on the water, oddly), a fun aquarium, and an exciting lasers-and-water-show on the waterfront. We got dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe, which had by far the best American food we've eaten since coming to Asia.

100 years ago, Singapore was described as "a swamp with a nice hotel." That nice hotel was the Raffles Hotel, where the original Singapore Sling was invented by a local bartender. Naturally, we had to stop by and drink a Singapore Sling each. They were pricey, but delicious. Here we are, looking like the colonial overlords we're not.

We found ourselves with an extra day in Singapore after Josh failed to get permission to re-enter India (funny story to follow at a later date.) We went to the Singapore Botanic Gardens, where we saw hundreds of the native orchids for which Singapore is renowned.
Alrighty, now we're off to the Taj Mahal in Agra. We'll write again soon!
